Production and Distribution

The six biggest movie companies in the world are: Universal, Columbia, Paramount, 20th Century Fox Warner Bros and Disney. The movie companies I researched were Universal, Warpx, Hammer, Working Title and Warner Brothers. I found out that most of these companies are over 100 years old. I looked at different idents for each production and distribution company. These were the different idents:
Paramount is a Viacom company. The actual clips has dramatic music. Also i found out that the stars represent the different workers,

Warner Brothers has its own studio and is golden to represent its timeless aspect. Sometimes for different movies such as Harry Potter they change the graphics as well as the song played on top.

Some of the connotations of this ident is that it is mostly for children and families.

This ident has  golden background showing LA, Hollywood. It is the idea of imposing.

In this clip the universal goes around the world to show that universal owns the world as a movie company.

Difference between Thriller and Horror movies

At first I didnt know the difference between a Thriller and Horror movie but now I have learnt that there is a big difference between a thriller and horror movie. Thriller mainly focuses on suspense and tension whereas a horror film is trying to elicit fear and disgust from its audience.
Thrillers are based on potential real-life events and monsters. They can be scary and keep you at the edge of your seat but does have a real life theme.
Horror is an extemely broad genre that can range from extreme ore to simply the unexplained.

Opening scenes of movies

In the opening scenes of movies I learnt that most of the movies have a similar order as to how they open the movie. When opening the movie I noticed that nearly all the movies had their titles fading in and out. Also they specified who made the movie. The movies I watched were: the woman in black, 22 jump street, Evan almighty, twilight and four weddings and a funeral. One of the movies started off with narration whereas the rest started with a simple song specifying the type of genre of the movie. All of the movies had different shots but the main ones were, wide shot, close up and aerial shot. These were used to show the location and the characters. Shot and reverse shot was only used when the characters had a conversation. Lastly I realised that the actual title of the movie didn't come straight away, so there was some dialogue.

Evaluation of Preliminary

My first experience of filming was exiting and hard as I didn't know how to use certain functions on the camera as well as I didn't know how to set up a tripod. After I edited the whole video I was satisfied with what I did. Editing the video was also a challenge as it was the first time I was using the software. The actors I used were good as they didn't get distracted quickly and they worked well with me. I did change the location and actors after the first draft as filming in the common room was not convenient and the timing didn't suit the actors. In my preliminary task I used shot reverse shot as one of the rules of filming. My experience of working in a team was good however sometimes it was hard to get them to concentrate.

I believe that I was well prepared for the preliminary as I had a script and time plan to follow, even though my original idea was to film in the common room. One thing that didn't work well in the task was that I didn't have enough dialogue as it only lasted 20 seconds. Also I should have been more creative with the type of camera shots I was going to use. Some of the things I could improve on are using the 180 degree rule, having match on action when the person walks in and also use different shots such as mid and wide shot.
